For my research question I will be covering whether or not the first round draft picks of the NFL are worth the money and hype? also is there a stigma that surrounds the draft?
I have always watched the NFL draft coverage on tv along with the coverage and pre-show that start months before the draft take place. In the past there has been draft picks that go in the 6th round and end up being the league's MVP (Tom Brady), but there have also been #1 draft picks of the first round that have amounted to nothing (Jamarcus Russell). Picks 1-10 typically have the highest paid contracts but 11 and below typically start having contracts that are only a fraction of what the top ten signed on for. Is the hype and money worth the player? How do we know that they will even succeed in the NFL? These are all questions that I have pondered about the draft. I personally believe that the biggest reason to pay the high dollar to the top picks are to draw people into following the season earlier than just a week or so before the pre-season starts.
hmmm...this sounds interesting i dont know much about football but I would be interesting in knowing why some sucky football players are getting sooo much more publicity and money than the good football players
ReplyDeleteThis is a good topic im curious about this too! I am an athlete so i know about all the politics that go along with it so i hope to read your paper.
ReplyDeleteI think that this sounds like a pretty good topic to do. I have noticed this same thing throughout the years, and have always been upset when a team that I like takes a top ten player, and they amount to absolutely nothing. I hope that you will be able to find sources for this though. I have no idea where I would even start to look for sources. Good luck, I am sure you find a way to crank this paper out.
ReplyDeleteThis topic has so many ways to look at it and you should have a very well prepared paper for it. I think its also interesting that some people do good and some dont. I think the money helps the team get the person they want and the rights to promote them and get their money for using them and also get a good fan base from other parts of the country.
ReplyDeleteI like the topic. I wonder when this really started. If there ever was a 1st pick who got an enormous signing bonus and if that kind of started this trend. Was there ever a year when player saleries went up across the board such as because a change in the collective bargaining agreement or some tv sponsership deal. I'm jealous that you get to watch ESPN has part of your research project
